Posted with info current to 7am Fri, Dec 23, 2016:
This coming storm could be the worst storm Winnipeg seen in over a decade with 10-14 inches coming and extreme drifting.
GIVEN THE TIMING AND NATURE OF THE STORM, COMPLETE SNOW-INS MAY OCCUR LATE SUNDAY AND BOXING DAY! PREPARE YOURSELVES!
This is due to high snowfall amounts, the timing and intensity of the snowfall (up to 2″ per hour at times), and the combination of wind gusts up to 75kph.
THE PLAN: Currently, snowfall looks to be starting as early as 6am Sunday, but possibly not until noon. The usual plan of action in these scenarios is to wait until 2-3″ has fallen, then begin clearing to reduce total accumulation on driveways. That would put clearing start in the mid afternoon Sunday range, with 1-2 visits occurring by boxing day morning. Usually the goal is to keep driveways at less than 6-8″ during the snowfall. but that simply won’t be possible with snowfall this intense SO PLAN ACCORDINGLY PLEASE! DRIVEWAYS WILL BE SNOW COVERED WITHIN AN HOUR OF US CLEARING.
WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU: CARS OFF DRIVEWAYS! GARBAGE BINS OFF DRIVEWAYS! NO EXCEPTIONS!
LET US BE CLEAR: ABSOLUTELY ALL EFFORTS WILL BE MADE TO SERVICE ALL CUSTOMERS! However we are warning now that areas exposed to drifting especially City of Winnipeg access roads in new subdivisions like Bridgewater may become completely impassable, even by our equipment. The snowfall and wind have the potential for 5+ foot drifts that can only be removes by heavy iron like wheel loaders etc. We are individually notifying customers at particular risk to this scenario.
We have plans A-Z, with contingency plans for contingency plans. However with this much snow coming, things can go awry quickly, which is why we’re warning in advance.
It’s imperative you use our tracking feature which provides vital service status information. We WILL be live updating route location via customer numbers listed on the tracking page. Your customer number is included on your initial invoice with Hero. All important info is posted to tracking. There’s simply no excuse for not knowing. DO NOT CALL FOR SERVICE STATUS QUESTIONS DURING STORM, as it ties up resources that could be going towards removing snow.
If you don’t understand how tracking works, have questions or concerns regarding the coming storm–or our plan of action–MAKE THEM HEARD PRIOR TO THE STORM (IE. today Friday)!! Calls/emails are answered incredibly quick as always.
Keep a close eye on tracking. More full length statements may be released like this and linked from tracking due there being too much info to fit into a 140 twitter message!
Have a Happy Holiday in between the snow.
